UL4200A _Key points for Testing and Instructions of Series Classification
The test focuses of UL4200A and series classification are explained as follows:
UL4200A is recognized and meets the standards for evaluating coin cells or consumer products containing coin cells. It complies with the UL4200A evaluation, which means that under normal use or misuse, the risk of coin cell of consumer product, which may be touched by children and accidental ingestion is reduced to meet regulatory requirements.
UL4200A includes product structure, marking, manual, testing and other evaluations.
All requirements are to reduce the possibility of children touching with and accidentally ingesting coin cells. The test is to simulate the product's life cycle, after multiple replacements of coin cells. Under normal use, or under certain accidental conditions (dropping, squeezing, impact, plastic shell aging...etc.), it still can meet the requirements.
UL4200A structural requirements:
1). Users can replace coin cell products: It must meets the requirements of chapters 5.3-5.6 of the standard.
2). Users cannot replace coin cell products: It must complies with the requirements of Chapter 5.7 of the standard.
UL4200A test: (testing is required regardless of whether users are allowed to replace coin cells.)
1) A sample is tested in the following order:
6.2.1A: Stress relief test: The maximum temperature rise of the plastic shell measured in the heating test is +10 degrees or 70 degrees Min. 7 hrs.
6.2.1B: Battery Replacement Test: Open/lock the cover and replace the battery for 10 cycles. The screwdriver torque refers to Table 20 of 60065. This test is key for products such as NB or Tablet, because the minimum torque for loosening/locking metal screws with heads is 0.4Nm. Many NBs use M2 or even smaller screws. After the second cycle of loosening/locking, the screw head slips and cannot be locked. However, in this case, 10 cycles still need to be completed.
6.3.2: Drop test: 3 times for portable device, 10 times for hand held product.
6.3.3: Impact test: 3 times, 2J.
6.3.4: Crush test: 330+/-5 N force applied to 100X250 mm area, 10s.
6.3.4A: Torque test: When the child's thumb + index finger or teeth can grasp the battery cover, 0.5 Nm.
6.3.4B: Tension test: When the child's thumb + index finger or teeth can grasp the battery cover, the pulling force is 72N.
6.3.4C: Compression test: The battery cover is accessible to children, but the children won’t be dropped by it. The downforce is 136N.
6.3.5: Compliance test: After testing 6.3.2 - 6.3.4B, apply 50+10N with a jointless finger for 10 seconds without touching the coin cell.
6.4 Secureness test: The Coin cell cannot be replaced, the cell fixation method complies with 5.7B, and it will touch the battery by testing 5.3/5.4, Test hook 20+/-2 N, 10 s.Requirements for UL4200A manual and marking:
1). Includes warning words, warning picture content, size, color, and font requirements.
2). Contains packaging label and product label.
3). Requirements for manual content.
Series classification:
The report can include series of models. For sample selection or full testing, the following factors need to be considered:
1). Main factors affecting the mechanical structure of the shell and test results: Product size, case thickness, weight, case locking method, and type, size, and coin cell fixing method of screw, the second source of plastic case.
2). Type of coin cell: Coin cell types are different, for example, CR2032 & CR2025, because of different thicknesses, you need to check the product structure and coin cell fixation method to decide whether to test one or test both.
3). When the laboratory's judgment is different from the customer, the customer can specify the test group, and the laboratory is responsible for the testing and the test samples.Prodigy Technology Consultant Co., Ltd. has been continuously updating its professional knowledge and technology in various fields, and we has accumulated lots of experience.
